"If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room"

- Read our interviews with our Banner apprentices and see how they are Blazing a Trail for National Apprenticeship week

It’s National Apprenticeship week, and Banner are celebrating the 20 apprentices they have welcomed into the business in the last few years; from those who were already employees at Banner and wanted to learn a new skill, to a brand-new selection of team members, as apprentices who have been welcomed into the company.

We’ve interviewed a selection of apprentices from across the business and here’s what they had to say:

Alexandra Milano-Tee (26) Public sector sales and team leader of the health vertical:

“I have been with the company two and a half years and have been a team leader for 18 months, I enjoy working at Banner because everyday is different which keeps me more engaged and motivate. To people thinking of starting an apprenticeship, embrace it, the hard work pays off in the end. If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. Which is one of the reasons I decided to volunteer for the apprenticeship program. I have always showed a willingness to the learn new things and have a constant desire to better myself.”

Dayna Rice (22) Banking and Finance customer service advisor:

“This is my first apprenticeship but my third full time job. I think that the apprenticeship scheme is brilliant. My advice for anyone starting an apprenticeship or thinking about apprenticeships is to try and learn as much as possible within a working environment.”

Naedeane Boulter (30) Sales/ Internal Account Executive:

“The best thing about being on an apprenticeship is getting to learn new skills; my main objective that I’m trying to achieve is to expand my knowledge and advance my career. I’m very grateful to the people who have given me this opportunity.”

Gemma White (35) Customer service manager:

“I like challenging my current views and opinions in order to make me a better manager. I believe you can always push yourself to learn and achieve more; after 15 years of being at Banner I am still learning and looking to broaden my knowledge.”

Victoria Whiteley (18) Digital Marketing:

“Without my Apprenticeship with Banner I wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to write this piece; in order to show you that being an apprentice is more than just working and studying.  It’s an experience and an opportunity you can’t afford to miss out on if given the chance. I learn something new everyday, but not in the same way you learn at college, it’s more practical rather than books and listening to someone talk for hours.”

No matter your age, job role or lifestyle anyone can take part in an apprenticeship, it can help you get into a job or help you to improve your current position.
