The University of Leicester is now one of many customers receiving 100% of its deliveries by electric vehicles from Banner.
The two organisations have been working collaboratively for the last six months to help the University achieve its sustainability aims. The introduction of electric vehicle deliveries from its hub just 10 miles from the campus is the latest initiative to be introduced.
Along with investment into electric vehicles, Banner’s entire current vehicle fleet is Low Emission Zone compliant and Ultra low emission where required. This means both the deliveries to distribution hubs and then to customers have low impact on the environment. The impact is continually measured by software that can track the emissions from the fleet and driver behaviour per vehicle.
Ryan Barrow, Procurement Administrator, from the University of Leicester says: “Through smarter logistics, including electric delivery vehicles, Banner is leading the way in taking the steps the University of Leicester requires of all its suppliers, to achieve its net zero carbon target.”
The University of Leicester has been a Banner customer for six months, receiving deliveries twice a week of supplies and services such as office products across the campus.
Of course, there are other sustainability benefits that the University achieves from being a Banner customer. For example, packaging remains a large part of the operation at Banner and so it’s an ongoing process to review and introduce new initiatives as tech improves and developments that fulfil all requirements hit the market. Steps to date include void fill, where we have removed 360 tonnes of waste by filling packages with 100% shredded recycled, cardboard, as well as changes to box glue, which is now plant-based.
Banner is also supporting the University to swap to cleaner, greener alternative products by offering a wide range of sustainably accredited products. Our B Green catalogue makes sustainable procurement simpler for customers.
The Catalogue also features a guide to understanding all the different product sustainability accreditations and covers what to look for to determine if products that don’t have any accreditations are still green and worth looking into.
Banner is committed to working collaboratively with the University of Leicester, the Higher education sector, and across all operations, employees, supply chain and customers, to achieve long-lasting change that protects our natural environment for the security of future generations.
