20211120_134638_2Introducing you to the next member of our close knit Healthcare Team - John Harney

John brings a wealth of market knowledge and experience from the past 20 years to the Banner Healthcare Team.  He is a true advocate of carbon reduction initiatives, a father to 8 year old football loving Jude, a blood donation hero and an absolute asset to Banner.

John’s current position within the Healthcare team is managing NHS Trust’s across south Yorkshire, the Midlands, the east of England and some of the home counties too, both direct from Banner and with the NHS Supply Chain. On top of this John manages and supports the Health Trust Europe framework across the Healthcare business and is also the Technology champion for the Health team. Working closely with our OEM partners, distributors and NHS Supply Chain, John ensures we promote and market a competitively priced range of technology and hardware products and services across our NHS and healthcare clients.

As a true advocate of carbon reduction, both within his role and also away from work, John has recently leased an all electric vehicle to ensure that he reduces his carbon footprint whilst attending customer facing appointments.

Outside of work John is father to 8 year old Jude, along with his partner Sarah (who also works within the Banner team as a senior customer services advisor for the past 14 years), they enjoy lots of outdoor time together, whether it be out walking with their 2 rescue greyhounds Frank and Peggy, or supporting Jude at his football matches and practice sessions for the local under 8’s team.

When John isn't working or spending time with his family you will likely find him supporting charities and being socially supportive, regularly helping Marie Curie with fundraising collections and events.

20210402_114906Not only this, John has been helping to alleviate a national shortage of platelets that has been caused by the pandemic over the past 2 years, by becoming a platelet donor. Having a very high platelet count means John’s donation is equivalent to 3 standard ones, his social conscience doesn’t really allow him not to donate! John’s donation can help to provide transfusions for either 3 adults or 12 children. Red blood cells regenerate quite quickly, which allows him to donate platelets every 4-6 weeks, helping to provide lifesaving treatment for cancer patients or for people who have had surgery.

If you are interested in donating platelets, please see the official NHS Blood and Transplant website. https://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/what-we-do/blood-services/platelet-donation/
