Four members of our corporate sales team, Alex Winstanley, Stephen Trott, Mick Twelves and Simon Eaden, recently rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time to support the UK’s oldest and largest sail training charity, Tall Ships Youth Trust. The team were put to task and enjoyed a day of completing ships maintenance work for the charity at the Gunwharf Quays Marina in Portsmouth.

Stephen Trott, the Banner Corporate Account Manager for Heathrow Airport, organised the day through the Heathrow Community Trust (HCT), which is an independent charity that receives funding from Heathrow Airport Limited.

Stephen Trott said: “Banner has been working in partnership with Heathrow Airport for over eight years as the supplier of stationery, paper and computer consumables. We work closely with the Procurement Team at Heathrow on sustainability initiatives to channel ways of reducing carbon and plastic within the contract, and we’re pleased to add social value to our relationship. Banner is supporting & encouraging its staff to give up a working day for charity work and this provided the perfect opportunity to assist in both Banner and Heathrow’s social value objectives, we were delighted to be able to offer our support.”

The volunteering day involved anything from helping to roll the giant heavy sail, replacing worn straps holding the boxes in place below deck, wiping down the rooms and under the beds for general cleanliness, re-fixing watertight caps on deck and the panel that secured the anchor chain. All of these tasks support the charity to enable young people, aged 12 to 25, to fulfill their life potential through adventures at sea.”
